West Country Concertina Players

Kilve Residential Weekends

Each year West Country Concertina Players offer two residential weekends of concertina playing at Kilve Court, Kilve, West Somerset. The weekends are structured so that there are workshops for each system and this enables Members to concentrate on techniques to improve playing their own instrument and different styles of music.

A beginner’s weekend is held in October at Kilve Court, designed for absolute beginners through to players who have reached an intermediate level.

At the end of each weekend, after the Concert and the Cream Tea, there are some of us that still haven't had enough concertina playing or we have a long journey home ahead of us. So we stay over for an extra night and go over to the pub across the road (The Hood Arms) where we have dinner together and play to our hearts content! It is a very relaxing and informal evening where we share tunes. Anyone is welcome to stay over - just ask the organisers who makes the arrangements and they can tell you more about it.

Next Kilve Weekend:
23rd - 25th Match 2012

Next Autumn Weekend:
October 2012

Bar sessions are held on the Friday and Saturday evenings and a concert by the tutors is also given.

This is what some recent participants have said about the two Kilve events:

“I went along to the workshop, not being able to read the bass clef or use my left hand at the same time as my right on the duet and by the end of the weekend I was able to do both!!”

“That was a super weekend again.”

“After the fabulous weekend spent at the October Kilve, I was inspired to work hard so that I would be able to participate in the March Kilve. All the hard work paid off and I was amazed at how well I got on in the Intermediate Band. It inspires me to work harder!”

“Tiring but great fun and I learned a lot”.
